Abel Jaramillo

Abel Jaramillo is a visual artist graduated in Fine Arts at the UCLM and Master in Contemporary, Technological and Performative Art at the UPV/EHU. He develops his work around the cracks and margins of history, the narratives and poetics linked to specific contexts and the political tensions that are projected in the everyday. Her practice focuses on the frictions and dissensions produced by putting in dialogue places, actions and images that reveal historical relationships, present conflicts and future speculations. In the field of video, he approaches these spaces of disagreement through the documentary genre, from a restless and stealthy gaze with which to approach microhistories that reveal socio-political phenomena.

He has shown his work individually in Galería Ángeles Baños (Badajoz), Galería Fran Reus (Palma), Centro Federico García Lorca (Granada), Hypercorps (Brussels, BE) or Galería Estrany - de la Mota (Barcelona). Collectively, he has participated in exhibitions at La Casa Encendida, Centro Centro (Madrid), Fabra i Coats, La Capella (Barcelona), Centro Cultural de España en México (Mexico City, MEX), Fundación Rafael Botí (Córdoba) or Galería Francesco Pantaleone (Palermo, IT). He has held residencies in various centers such as the Academy of Spain in Rome (Rome, 2022- 2023), Las Cigarreras (Alicante, 2020), La Térmica (Málaga, 2020), Hangar (Lisbon, 2018) or Ruber Contemporanea (Palermo, 2018). He has been the recipient of awards and grants such as Nudo/Knot 2024 from Fundación Cerezales (León), Babestu 2024 from Azkuna Zentroa (Bilbao), Generación 2022 from La Casa Encendida (Madrid) or Ayudas Injuve (2017 and 2020), among others.
