Ángel Montero

Ángel Montero is a visual artist and filmmaker. He studied a Master's degree in Performing Arts Practice and Visual Culture at the University of Castilla-La Mancha, from which he began to make films. His artistic work begins with dance and performance, to later approach documentary and experimental audiovisual practices. With a marked interest in the border, his pieces are constructed from a sensorial exploration of identity, memory, the familiar, the intimate and the relationship between the body and the territory. Currently, his lines of research revolve around the politics of the body and the economy of care, in a constant search for new forms of representation.

His audiovisual work has been shown at festivals and venues such as CA2M, Casa de Velázquez, Instituto Cervantes, CAR - Centro de Acercamiento a lo Rural, L'Alternativa, Zinebi, (S8) Mostra Internacional de Cinema Periférico, Curtocircuíto, Festival de Cine de Alcalá de Henares, Alcances, Experiments in Cinema (New Mexico), FIDBA (Buenos Aires), Kassel Dokfest and Doclisboa. Devociones, co-directed with María Serna, received the Galicia Competition Award at the Play-Doc 2023 Festival. In the field of dance and performance, he has worked with choreographers and artists such as Simone Forti, Romeo Castellucci, Elena Córdoba, Antonio Ruz, Daniel Abreu and Janet Novás.
