Candela Sotos


Candela Sotos develops her work between the archive, moving image, and botanical practices. She studied Audiovisual Communication in Madrid and completed a Master's degree in Fine Arts and Photography at Paris 8 University. She also took part in the Artists’ Program at Torcuato di Tella University in Buenos Aires. Her artistic practice incorporates diverse methodologies that connect oral transmission and collaborative practice, seeking ways to produce images and narratives around memory. Her work takes the form of installations, editions, and films.

She has exhibited her work in exhibitions and screenings at CRA Matadero Madrid, Cineteca, Sala de Arte Joven, Círculo de Bellas Artes, Haroldo Conti Cultural Center for Memory, Fundación Cerezales FCAYC, or Fundación Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, among others. She has also participated in projects and residencies, presenting her work at the First Latin American School on the Urban Anthropocene (ENS-Lyon, École Urbaine de Lyon/UNSAM-IDAES), and at the research residency at Centro Huarte in collaboration with the Punto de Vista International Film Festival in Pamplona. Her projects have been supported by creation grants from the Community of Madrid, Madrid City Council, the National Arts Fund of Argentina, and the Ministry of Culture. Her first feature film, Yrupẽ (2025), was presented at the Visions du Réel International Film Festival in Nyon and at the European Media Art Festival in Osnabrück. As an educator, she has collaborated with the Educational Enrichment Program for gifted students (PEAC), conducted workshops at the Royal Botanical Garden of Madrid, La Casa Encendida, and ran an art clinic program at the Spanish Cultural Center in La Paz (Bolivia). She also co-directs lacalor, a garden, printmaking workshop, and independent art space.
