Félix Fernández


Félix Fernández. BA in Fine Arts (Pontevedra). Education in subjects related to the audiovisual, photographic and visual art fields, under the supervision of Michael Ackerman, Mia Makela Aka Solu, Luis Cerveró and Eva Lootz. He has also completed courses on performance, contemporary dance, creation and composition, with: Marina Abramóvic, Ana Buitrago, Elena Córdoba, Juan Domínguez, Bartolomé Ferrando, Esther Ferrer and Mónica Valenciano.

He received grants from La Casa Encendida (2005) and INJUVE (2004) for art project production. He has received the first prize at the  “III certamen de artes plásticas Deputación de Ourense” (2004), the Jury prize at “Visualsound Barcelona 03”, and the prize for new tendencies at “VIII certamen de artes plásticas Cidade de Lugo” (2001). Other prizes he has received include “Muestra audiovisual INJUVE”(2003), and “II premio auditorio de Galicia”(2002).

His first solo exhibition “Descenso” took place in the Centro Torrente Ballester de Ferrol. His second solo show, financed by Caixa Galicia, was “Latitudes III: proceso autobiográfico”, at Fundación Caixa Galicia (Ferrol). He is presently working for his third exhibition at the Museo Provincial de Lugo.

He has led a workshop on video-performance, “Espejismos y Realidades” at La Casa Encendida and at the Universidad de Alcalá, Madrid. He works with the C5 gallery in Santiago de Compostela.

At the moment he is in the process of developing various projects with the artists Andrés Senra, Rubén Ramos Balsa and the theatre company Lengua Blanca.

Statement

El treball de Félix Fernández es centra en la relació de l'individu contemporani amb l'entorn que li ha tocat viure (temps, espai, cos, identitat, realitat socioeconòmica, paisatge, mitjans de comunicació, …). La seva mirada sempre subjectiva cerca la complicitat i empatia de l'espectador, ja que en cas contrari el seu treball no pot ser entès.

Formalment inscriu els seus treballs en una multiplicitat de formats donant com a lloc híbrids entre foto i performance, espectacles audiovisuals, instal·lacions, videocreacions, …

El cos és un element fonamental en la seva obra, en la qual ell apareix, dotant d'un component autobiogràfic a alguns dels seus treballs, que combinat amb el poder simbòlic d'objectes i situacions donen com resultat un llenguatge que barreja realitat i ficció a parts iguals.
