We are thrilled to announce that Les Voyageurs, David Bingong's film, has won the DOCS Award for Best Catalan Film following its premiere in Catalonia at the Docs Barcelona festival.
On the border between Morocco and Spain, a group of travellers anxiously awaits the chance to cross into Europe. They survive one failed attempt after another whilst striving to keep hope alive for the whole group. Les Voyageurs, crafted with a camera and a few songs, resonates as a powerful gesture of resilience. The film is the matured result of Hamaca's 1st Contrapicada Production Grant, where David Bingong and Irene Gutiérrez joined forces to work with the footage David had filmed during his migration to Spain. In Bingong's words, "We made Les Voyageurs to show our day-to-day lives as sub-Saharan immigrants in Morocco, through the lens of everyday life. We wanted to show our reality as it is, unfiltered, simply using a handful of songs and videos we created along the way that speak of our community, conflicts and dreams. We were driven by a common goal: to cross the border fence between Morocco and Spain, one of the most heavily militarised on the planet. This film, shot between 2014 and 2015 as we made the attempt after attempt, not only served to capture that reality, but also to give us strength as a group, to empower us."
Congratulations, David!!!
