Axel

Santi Carlini

Axel is an intimate portrait of a young man hospitalized in a psychiatric ward after a breakdown in September 2018. Through his voice, his gaze, and his silences, the documentary invites us to follow the narrative he himself builds about his experience. The main character reflects on confinement, time, cinema, friendship, and life after discharge, sharing his most personal thoughts with clarity and sensitivity. Axel gradually opens up with trust, where words and gestures reveal a search for meaning, for healing, for connection. It doesn’t seek to explain or translate, but to inhabit a world presented as it is: fragile, poetic, full of layers. A human and empathetic approach to mental health, one that avoids stigma and focuses instead on what someone has to say when given the time and space to do so.
