– What do you see, Juan Diego?
– The autumn leaf. The park with games. The confused tree. The missing cactus. The sky with leaves. The sores on his hand. The playground bars. The timely shadow. The silhouette of his friend. The street asphalt. The flower and hedge beds. The banana yucca with its shadows. The gaze of the three. The wet albero. The cheese tarpaulins. The grass with the parakeet and the open water. The reversed gaze. The rings. The wrinkles on his mask. The blurred gaze.
Cuento de Mediodía [Midday Tale] is an experimental story created collectively by artist Julia Martos and the Andalusian collective Ojo Pértico, made up of people with intellectual disabilities who are users of the Municipal Occupational Day Center in La Puebla de Cazalla. Martos mediated for a month between the Center’s users and the use of video cameras, facilitating learning dynamics around experimental narrative, observation, and audiovisual critique. The users of the Center and members of the collective filmed their environment and daily routines, exploring the following perspectives: the street / oneself / the other person / the home and the intimate.
All the materials that appear in the film have been part of this experience. The collaboration with Julia Martos arose from her participation in a well-established residency program that has been running since 2016 as part of the Art Program for People with Intellectual Disabilities at the Center. The collaborative or co-authored projects that emerge from this context are always developed with respect and sensitivity toward personal artistic expression, fostering creative and vital growth for all parties involved.
The piece premiered at the Granada Young Filmmakers Festival (2024).
