Some code programmers use the expression "Get into the Zone" to designate a specific state of stimulation and concentration that enables hyperproductivity. The central thread of this project is the neuro-pyschiatric conditions that result from capturing attention for work and leisure on screens, such as: attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), burnout syndrome, hyperstimulation, anxiety and depression. The starting point is the activation of these ailments, understanding them as the result of a socio-historical context rather than an individual one.
Get into the Zone is a video-essay that explores ADHD in a narrative and conceptual way: its treatments derived from amphetamines, mild stimulants (coffee, tea, taurine, mate) and its colonial origins, video games, work in front of the screen and techno. Juan David Galindo approaches from his personal experience a broader social, political and historical process about the relationship between interconnected screens, overstimulation, immaterial overproduction, leisure, partying, anxiety, depression and addiction.
