Detachment refers doubly to the material and the affective, linking the emotional with the physical. Detachment can be a painful but at the same time necessary gesture, in the same way that the imaginaries of collapse, beyond representing an end, can also propose new desired beginnings.
In Memòria del despreniment (Memories of detachment), collapse is shown as the appearance of non-specific elements that appropriate urban space and respond to collective imaginaries; imaginaries that reveal details of a society's behavior. These cultural imaginaries are constructed from authentic or modified images and are directly related to the evolution of image recording and manipulation technologies. What role do we attribute to images of collapse and in what way are control devices justified?
The elements in the video serve as metaphors for the accumulation of information and knowledge, as well as the rise of entropy or decay, through a plot that unveils contemporary scenarios of overflow. In the architecture of the imaginary, the fantastical is replaced by the possible.
