Alba Matilla Iglesias

Alba Matilla Iglesias (Avilés, 1998) graduated in Fine Arts from the University of Vigo and the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, specializing in painting. After working for some time in the field of cultural management, she completed a master's degree in Research and Creation in Contemporary Art at the UPV/EHU, where she began to merge the pictorial practice with video and 3D design software. As a result of this experience, she specializes in 3D mechanics, specifically researching landscape and the dialectics between the virtual and the physical landscape, through the ruins or the preservation of industrial memory.

New ways of making painting in a digital world where the deindustrialization and its impact on the identity of those who inhabit it is the core of her work, using art as a tool for geographical and cultural research and working on the hybridization of video, photogrammetry or 3D scanning and painting.

Matilla has participated in artistic residencies such as Matadero CRA (Madrid, 2024), Eufònic + Centre d'art Lo Pati (Amposta, 2024) or LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial (2023). Her work has been exhibited individually at the Centro Cultural Montehermoso in Vitoria-Gasteiz (2024), and collectively at LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial, Gijón (currently); Upper Gallery, UAL London College of Communication, London (2023); Bizkaia Aretoa, Bilbao (2022) and at the CTJV Gallery in Monçao, Portugal (2022). She has participated in contemporary art festivals such as Eufònic (Tarragona, 2024) or INTERSECCIÓN (A Coruña, 2022). In 2024 she has been awarded with the “Asturias Joven” Prize of Plastic Arts.
