Cova Macías


Oviedo-Asturias 1976. He currently lives and works in Paris. Artistic Photography technician at the School of Art in Oviedo.

He has been an artist in residence at Hangar (BCN) and more recently in "Le Pavillon" artistic research laboratory of the Palais (Tokyo), Site de Création Contemporaine (Paris), Cité Internationale des Arts (Paris) and Frankfurter Kunstverein (Frankfurt) where he is currently developing a new project. Since October 2008, he is part of the first class of artists living in "Le 104" Etablissement artistique de la Ville de Paris.

Amongst others, his recent individual exhibitions are "En un lugar solitario" in the halls of Culture "Sa Nostra" de Mallorca, Formentera and Menorca and "El tiempo que pasamos juntos." Gallery Espai Visor. Valencia. His collective exhibitions and projects include "Building societies" Konsthall C. (Stockholm) and Centre d'Art La Panera. (Lleida), "Versus." Les artistes du Pavillon. Statement

In recent years he has developed a line of research, centered around interests and aesthetic standards that are at an uncertain territory between documentary and fiction. He uses audiovisual and photographic media to produce a speech that sets the directional axis:

- Analysis of the construction of identity in conflict ages such as adolescence and youth.

- Psycho-sociological exploration of different types of behaviors and roles acquired.

- Reflection on the representation that make the protagonists themselves facing the camera and their relationship to the reality around them.

Its working methodology starts with the experimentation of different exercises, devices and protocols that allow you to write and structure the project in real time from the shared experience with the participants (subject-actor-model) and their more active collaboration. During the work process he tries to find own codes, approach and representation systems that define each participant through dialogue, negotiation, agreement and complicity between both sides. The end result is a sober piece, which suggests a "mise en scène" meticulously studied.

The continuous interaction of all these factors, coupled with visible components of this emotional experience, an observation of the more everyday problems, and an ethical stance defined between observer and observed, set the fields of action of his artistic projects.
