House of Tupamaras

House of Tupamaras is an interdisciplinary collective dedicated to the practice, circulation and management of Ballroom and Voguing culture in Colombia. The group takes elements from dance, performance and visual arts to develop scenic pieces that question the differences or similarities between contemporary art and spectacle, we transit through conventional scenarios and unusual spaces in the circulation of live arts.

The collective is interested in addressing issues of sexual diversity, the construction of leisure spaces, nightlife, methods of creation and research of the arts through discourses of gender and identity. They claim the night as a space free of discrimination. The night allows to explore and to give course to those movements, generally catalogued as “Mariconeo and Ploma”, that is, stigmatized and excluded positions and gestures in public places. With the aim of generating safe meeting spaces for the free development of body and gender, they build safe and inclusive ball courts based on mutual respect. Their motto: We are a queer guerrilla. Our manifesto is the ball.
