Pilar Álvarez

Pilar Álvarez (Santander, 1982) has a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Salamanca, and spent her final year in Lisbon, where she specialised in audiovisuals. She graduated in Documentary Film at the Madrid Film Institute (NIC) and in Documentary Film Directing at the International Film and TV School (EICTV) in San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba. She has exhibited her audiovisual work in different art centres, collective and individual exhibitions as well as in international film festivals.

She works in the field of cultural management, specifically in the area of education and mediation. She records and edits videos, sometimes from her own images and sometimes with found images that end up being a bit of her own. Pilar Álvarez records in order to be able to see what is so close that it often goes unnoticed. Spaces where things happen and from which we sometimes learn something, in a museum, in a school or in her own home. These videos are shown in cinemas, also in museums, although Pilar most enjoys showing them in the classes and workshops she gives, whether to future filmmakers, artists, teachers, children or teenagers who allow me to unravel them and culminate a process that begins intuitively a long time before.
