4'33'' by Raquel Friera is a version of the famous musical piece 4'33'' by the American composer John Cage, also called a "soundless piece", as it's composed entirely of silence. in fact, the score of this famous work by Cage is composed exclusively of indications of the time that each of the three movements lasts, with no notes, only silences (tacet). Cage thus pays homage to the experience of silence.
In Raquel Friera's version, she shows what happens when a mother performs a piece of music composed entirely of silence. The artist thus opens up the piece to current meanings and issues.
This work is part of a wider cycle of performances that the artist has been carrying out over recent years The cycle is called Feminizing Art History and consists of reinterpreting, in a feminist key, some essential performances from the History of 20th century art. In this way, Raquel Friera reactivates, critically and from the current context, the History of Art.
