PUEBLA is a circular movie filmed in Escó, one of the 3000 villages abandoned by humans and institutions in rural Spain. Puebla was filmed with the collaboration of the people who live in nearby areas. In one of its streets, a spectral choreography slowly unfolds and mobilizes the complex ecosystem inhabithing the place.
Through the continuous turning of the image, a fable of exclusions and ghosts is told. The land beats in cycles of appearance and disappearance in which other beings outside the human presence are protagonists. In the film, presences are seen but also heard or sensed, the geology seems to modify its rhythm and beats inside matter, the objects entangle and together condense stories never told, a domestic animal comes, another leaves, birds sound, insects, snails, light overflows, blades that fly, apparitions like mist, sudden night and rain, birds are suddenly mute, superstition springs up, visual metaphors that belong to the same order as the earth and the adobe, the weather is magical, archeology seems to be reversed, solar changes in the mountain, the red is intense, the music arrives: a bastard ecosystem listening.
The piece premiered in the 32nd cycle of Contemporary Visions dedicated to Silvia Zayas, curated by Playtime Audiovisuales. Da2, Salamanca. Contains ê (2021) and PUEBLA (2021) with María Jerez. Curated by Playtime Audiovisuales.
