Cinema session. Imagined by Silvia Zayas
In collaboration with HAMACA
June 18th | Hangar

…I imagined this session from a musical perspective, emotionally, deep down in the abyss, with both rawness and tenderness.
I imagined listening to these tracks whilst lying in the dark,
the desire emerging from a teenage memory, we're lying scattered across the cold floor of a tiny, pitch-black room, listening to a whole LP together. We hummed along to everything, confused, not yet fully knowing the lyrics. We tore through the lyrics with a rudimentary English. We care about letting the language retain its own prosody. We seek a kind of redemption through the raw freedom of language.
Some of these tracks appear here, torn apart by the brutality of what they tell, and seem to find refuge in intimate and collective resistance through masses of sound and voice. The sounds and memories become ingrained in the flesh and also in the substance and form of the films.
All of them could be, or are almost, almost on the verge of becoming songs.

This activity is part of rayocerca, a three-day programme that functions somewhat like a layered ''making-of'', featuring somatic training, workshops, experiences, film references, and interactions with people who are participating or will participate in various ways in the future film Clarão. Produced in collaboration with Dorothy Michaels, it takes place in Barcelona at Hangar, the Institute of Marine Sciences (ICM) and the city beach on 18,19 and 20 of June.
For more detailed information, please see the programme in PDF.
rayocerca works with chapters that never happened, collaborations that have not yet taken place or are about to, torpedo rays and other marine creatures such as discards, the imminent and apparent extinction of small-scale fishing, the pre-verbal, the unconscious, that which lies dormant, and that which is on the verge of becoming a song or transforming into an unexpected language. It is a disassembled and imagined dramaturgy designed to “work whilst working”. It unfolds collectively as a provocative game that sustains the detours, layers and inner workings that the temporality of making this film reveals. A device that creates mashups between the team’s practices and questions and shared experimentation. rayocerca seizes upon the discarded and the rhythmic, paraverbal or emotional elements that border discourse, to spend time with all that raw and wild material that opens up abysses to meaning.
