Who Will Still Be Here? tells the story of what the Covid pandemic has meant for people with disabilities through interviews with "disca" [spanish word derived from "dissability"] artists Costa Badía and Kat Munster. The video covers the period from the moment the WHO declares the Covid-19 pandemic until the Spanish state receives the first vaccines against the virus. The interviews are accompanied by news that contextualize and represent the moment of this pandemic, reflecting on the capacity to manage the situation. Therefore, in this video, Silvia Maestre makes a gesture of turning them into "DISabled" news, creating a disability perspective and adopting a revision through this project.
The video covers subjects of accessibility, the performance of disability, and the people who have the right to return to normality, as opposed to those who don't – the "discas". "Now (in confinement) I'm at peace because I don't feel that I'm missing out on things," Costa says in a fragment of the video, while Kat notes "at the beginning of confinement everyone was saying «I don't know what's going to happen, I don't know when I'm going to be able to leave the house» same for me, but [it's been this way] for years now." Both artists show how the pandemic has meant that those who have never experienced this marginality have seen what it can be like, with the consequent – and bitter – reflection that Costa reaches: "they [the non-disabled] are certain that sooner or later it [leaving home] will happen, but not us, we are going to stay at home".
Some of the phrases have been extracted from the interviews to be exhibited in various art centers where Costa Badía and Kat Munster work or collaborate. Although these exhibitions have an ephemeral nature, they also serve to highlight the (supposed) temporary nature of this pandemic as opposed to the permanence of the "disca" lives. The video has been presented at the II International Speculative Congress: Art, Alliances, Affections and Something More (2022) and has participated in the festival Nit de l'Art de Altea (2022).
